EARLY PHOTOS (HORROR PHOTOS)
This body of work was made between 1997 and 2001, in my apartment, in my studio on Roebling Street, and in a temporary studio that I sublet on Hope Street near the Lorimer stop in Greenpoint/Williamburg. Each image took months to make, sometimes with several photo sessions as I worked through the complex set ups in my studio. I made additional images that weren’t produced, but that do exist on contact sheets, with images and ideas making their way into later films.
Some of these images are graphic, but to me were always preoccupied with space and form - pulling from existing images of violence or horror in popular culture, but always returning to sculpture.
